Cancer is uncontrolled cell growth that occurs when the cell cycle
malfunctions. Cancer cells can spread through the body destroying
other cells that get in their way.
Many genes control the cell cycle. If any of these genes mutate
the cell may lose control of the cell cycle and a cancer will often
be the result.
P53 is a tumor suppressor gene that regulates the cell cycle. If
the DNA of a cell is damaged it will cause the cell to go into apoptosis.
