The original cell has divided once. The daughter cells here are each in metaphase II for meiosis. Note that each cell has one of each homologous chromosome.

These cells are haploid. Haploid is having one copy of each chromosome. What does diploid mean?

The haploid cells above will eventually form gametes (egg or sperm). They have twice the DNA needed for a gamete. Each cell has two copies of each DNA molecule.

What must happen to these haploid cells with doubled chromosomes?
