Mass is the quantity of matter in an object.
It is related to weight, but not the same. Weight is your mass on
the earth. Your weight with the same mass would be less on the moon.
Your weight would be more on the planet Jupiter.

The reference unit for mass is the gram. This is approximately
the mass of two paper clips. Use your spring scale to measure the
mass of the objects in the table below. You can use a paper cup to
hold liquids such as water. Be sure to deduct the mass of the the
cup from the the reading on the scale to get the net mass of the object
you are measuring. |
