Gymnosperms produce seeds for reproduction. They do not depend on water for movement of sperm to an egg. Instead the sperm cells are contained in pollen which is dispersed in the air.

The seeds of gymnosperms are larger and more complex than spores.

Gymnosperm means naked seed. The seeds are produced in the open on a cone.
