Placement for On-the-job Experience
2nd year participants will have an opportunity to work 20 hours per week in a job interest related to their Career Pathway.
Assistance with job placement
We will help you find a job. CT Staff assists with employment after sufficient training is completed. Assistance is also provided on site through the OCCC Career Services and OCCC employment.
Introductory interviews and skills assessment
- Help to inventory current skills.
Basic skills development
- Assist in development of reading and math skills in a friendly atmosphere.
- Utilization of college learning labs
Assistance with completion of an approved vocational program including one of the following areas:

Follow-up tracking and activities
- You are not alone after you get a job.
- We will follow you for up to 6 months on the job.
Development of Individual Education and Employment Plan
- Contract developed between OKDHS, CT, OCCC and the participant.
- Assists the participant in developing an employability plan to reach short-term and long-term employment goals.
Tutor Assistance
- Available to assist participants in most training areas.
- Additionally, tutors are provided in the OCCC labs (Accounting, Communications, Information Technology, Math, Science Center, etc.) to assist participants in developing computer literacy and in the use of various computer applications.
- Length of tutoring varies.
Assistance with employment readiness skills
Have you ever wondered why someone else always gets the job? All participants that are accepted into the Career Transitions Program will get the opportunity to acquire the following job readiness skills:
- How to complete a resume
- How to interview for a job
- How to succeed in getting a job
- How to dress for the interview
- And other job readiness skills
CT participants will also have the opportunity to acquire skills in other areas such as:
- Work responsibility and ethics
- Computer literacy
- Job search skills
- Health to work
- Support groups
- Attitudes for success
- Self-esteem development
- Parenting
- Counseling (referral, if needed)
- Best utilization of community resources (some on site)
- ADA accommodation
- Effective listening
- Life skills (financial, etc.)
- Study and test-taking skills
- Work effectively in groups
- Diversity in the workplace
