A Little of My History |

I was born in Altus, Oklahoma on August 8, 1953. My mother said she dropped me on my head (but I think all mothers tell their sons this). From there I was promptly transported to the big city of Olustee, Oklahoma. Olustee and Eldorado, Oklahoma are kind of like sister towns deep in Southwest Oklahoma. I have lived a little bit of everywhere, but I would have to call Eldorado my hometown even though I grew up many of my years in Wichita, Kansas. Now don’t try to figure all this out too much, because I haven’t. Well, it wasn’t long before I found my infant self in Wichita, Kansas and, after a brief stay in the Plainview Housing Development, we moved to the Hilltop community. Hilltop is not what you would call an upscale environment (www.hilltopper.com), but it does build character. In 1968, my dad was laid off from Boeing Aircraft after fifteen years of service and the three of us moved to Bethany, Oklahoma where I attended the brand new Putnam City West High School. Boy, did I feel out of place. But, I did manage to hang on to graduate in 1971. I attended OU and, after a dispute over my scholarship, I changed to Central State University in 1972. I went to work for KWHP radio in the spring of 1973 where I stayed for several years. In 1976, I went to work for the Yukon Public Schools where I worked with such characters as Paul Sechrist and Ann Martin (Ackerman). In 1977, I waltzed into my first class as an adjunct instructor at Oklahoma City Community College. From this time on, I was hooked and it wasn’t long before I was hired full time. In between all this, I married Darla Lyman (Wyoming cowgirl) and we have since had two great children. James Robert Myers age 11 and Briley Norris Myers age 8. I have two step-kids who are now grown and doing great Johnathon Hill and Laura Hill. And, now I just want to go fishing. |
