Course Description


LS 0033 College Writing II: 3 credits. The student will increase basic skills of written communication with an emphasis on good paragraph and essay structure.

LS 0203 College Reading I: 3 credits: After instruction in reading skills such as finding the main idea, mapping, and using the context, the student will demonstrate reading skill improvement by reading and reporting on articles and books of his or her own selection. Emphasis is placed on the use of materials related to the student's specific needs and on the student progressing at a rate which is consistent with his or her abilities.
This is a pass/fail class.

LS 0213 College Reading II: 3 credits. Through group-paced drills, skill-building exercises, individually prescribed activities, and frequent practice, students will improve reading comprehension, speed and vocabulary. The student will improve his or her reading comprehension by one to three grade levels. This is a pass/fail class.

COM 1103 Effective Reading: 3 credits. The student will improve reading rate while maintaining or improving comprehension. The student will study conventional patterns of written material in order to improve comprehension and retention. Students will focus on specific aspects or reading: speed, comprehension, vocabulary, study reading, or reasoning/thinking skills. Lab work is a component of this class.
