Students will travel the world through mosaic art in this semester’s Fast-Track mosaic class that begins April 14.
Art 1193 will be held every Saturday from April 14 through May 12. The class is a three-credit-hour art elective course.
The class will meet downtown at 400 N. Walnut Ave. Retired OCCC Art Professor Carolyn Farris will teach the course and add elements from other cultures to the class.
“The first day of class I will show mosaics from all over the world,” Farris said. “Each week we will look at a different country and each student will be assigned to bring food from that culture.”
The students will work on nine wall panels to be installed at the north end of the Bricktown canal.
Each wall will have a scene that depicts an important part of Oklahoma. The women’s wall will be worked on during the mosaic class. The scene depicts three Native American women pouring pots of water into the canal.
“The students will learn the process of doing large mural-size mosaics,” Farris said.
Students also will have the chance to leave their mark for posterity.
“Each student will be able to inscribe his or her name in the clay that is going to be put up on the Bricktown canal,” Farris said.
Twenty seats are available in the class and nine are vacant.
