Writing a successful résumé is an important skill.
Students can learn why they need a good résumé and how to develop one in a campus seminar at noon Monday, April 9. The seminar will be held in the Career and Employment Services office.
Laura Choppy, Employment Services coordinator, will conduct the seminar that is part of the “Career Power in 25 Minutes!” series. In less than half an hour, students will learn the importance of a good résumé and receive helpful tools to create an ideal résumé, she said.
A sample résumé will be given out as an example for students. Also, a checklist of information to include will be provided.
Choppy will offer tips for easier résumé writing and will teach students how to build reference lists.
A résumé is the first step when searching for the right position, she said. While other factors of job searching, such as references and interviews, might be equally important, the résumé is what gets the ball rolling.
“The interview might be someone’s strong point, but without a good résumé, an employer won’t even call for an interview.”
Nursing student Kandy Brown said she appreciates the importance of résumés.
“A résumé is a personal reflection of who you are to the employer,” Brown said.
