Students will have the opportunity to walk off next year’s holiday pounds in exotic surroundings.
“From Rome to Athens,” a nine-day educational excursion offered through EF Tours, will take place during the 2007-2008 winter break, said English Professor Bertha Wise.
The trip is tentatively scheduled for Dec. 26 through Jan. 3.
The cost is $2,100 for anyone 22 or younger and $2,400 for anyone 23 and older, because older travlers bunk with fewer roommates, Wise said.
Wise and Ruth Charnay, Arts and Humanities acting dean, are the faculty sponsors for the trip.
“Traveling to Rome and Athens will offer students an opportunity to see all of the famous places they may have heard about or studied in history, humanities, literature or theater classes,” Wise said.
“The ancient ruins of Rome and Pompeii, Vatican City, the Acropolis and the ancient theater of Epidarus are just some of the sites we’ll visit.”
This is an opportunity not only to see another part of the world with a very rich history but also to earn some college credit, Charnay said.
Students may enroll in a three-hour special topics humanities course for college credit, Wise said. However, the class is not required.
There is no limit to the number of people allowed to attend, she said, and participants need not be students at OCCC.
Wise said she would prefer people sign up by April 15.
“I invite everyone who wants to see history up close to join the group,” she said.
