Pharmacy tech class added to spring curriculum
Corporate Learning at OCCC will offer Pharmacy Technician I: Basic Prescriptions & Dispensing Jan. 23 through Mar. 14 on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the OCCC library.
Taught by Jeff Yanchick, a licensed pharmacist and member of the Oklahoma Pharmacists Association, the eight-week course is designed to give students a well-rounded view of the pharmaceutical industry and will present the initial educational components leading to Pharmacy Technician Certification.
According to Doralicia Sandoval, consultant for OCCC Corporate Learning, the course is being offered due to the marked increase in the number of chain drug stores across the United States and the resulting growing demand for trained pharmacy technicians.
“Curriculum for this course includes instruction in state regulations, insurance restrictions, mathematics relating to job performance, applicable law, computerized pharmacy systems and other related skills,“ she said.
Prerequisites for the class include a high school diploma or GED and basic math skills.
Cost for the course is $275.00 which includes all instruction and course materials. For more information or to enroll, call OCCC Corporate Learning at 682-7562 or visit www.occc.edu/corporatelearning.
