ESL and GED classes still available at OCCC site locations
Popular on the campus of Oklahoma City Community College are the ESL (English as a Second Language) and GED (General Education Development) classes. Although full to capacity and one week into the curriculum on the campus of OCCC, additional classes are still available at a number of OCCC site locations throughout the metro and surrounding areas.
OCCC was able to initiate adult learning at various site locations after being awarded a $600,000 Adult Education and Family Literacy Grant last summer. Now, the Community Outreach and Education Department at OCCC is thrilled to begin utilizing the funds, as a new bilingual GED class is being taught at the Capitol Hill Center located inside the Latino Community Development Agency, 420 SW 10.
"We have quality instruction at all of our site locations," Jessica Martinez-Brooks, OCCC director of Community Outreach and Education, said. "All of our teachers are state certified, and our goal with the site locations is to ensure that everyone in need of GED or ESL has a class available to them that is convenient in both time and location."
OCCC site locations include: Crooked Oak High School, Edmond Central Middle School, Midwest City Library, Edmond Public Library, Southern Nazarene University, Francis Tuttle Rockwell Campus, Francis Tuttle Reno Campus, Exchange Baptist Church, Western Oaks Middle School, Putnam City Even Start, Lakeview Park Church of the Nazarene, Warr Acres Library, Choctaw Library, Del City Community Center, Rose State College, Putnam City Academy, Latino Community Development Agency(Spanish), Mid-Del Tech Center and Eastern County Tech Center.
The student curriculum is provided free of charge and each class is taught by an Oklahoma-certified teacher. For a location near you, visit our web site www.occc.edu/coe, or call (405) 682-7859.
