Forty percent of workers at Tinker Air Force Base are eligible for retirement, said Hoover McCoy, program analyst for Force Development at Tinker. That means that there will be many jobs available to new college graduates as well as to many students who are still working toward their degrees, he said.

McCoy was on campus Feb. 16 to talk to students about full-time and part-time positions they might be interested in applying for. About 127 people total attended his two presentations that day.

One option, called Student Career Experience Program offers part-time positions to students enrolled in college, McCoy said. Minimum qualifications require that applicants have at least a 2.0 cumulative college grade point average.

Because SCEP is designed for students, the jobs offer flexibility to accommodate a college schedule. McCoy said this is one program where applicants can apply directly to the Tinker jobs office, 4069 Hilltop Road, Tinker AFB, OK 73145.

According to the SCEP Fact Sheet handed out at the seminar, the program’s primary objective is to offer valuable work experience directly to the student’s primary field of study.

McCoy said all other Tinker jobs available to students, whether part-time or full-time, require an online search through the federal online employment Web site, www.usajobs.gov. This Web site includes all jobs available through the federal government, not just Tinker jobs, so it requires some search time to find jobs of interest.

Among other Tinker programs is the Tinker Intern Program. To qualify for this program, students must be a U.S. citizen, must have completed at least 60 hours of college work, have a current GPA of 2.5 or higher, be enrolled in a Tinker Track plan of study or willing to switch and must be pursuing a first baccalaureate degree.

For the Defense Career Intern Program, the purpose is to recruit, train and develop exceptional individuals for professional positions in the federal civilian service. This program requires the person to work full time. The agency will provide a two-year formal training or development program, and trainees www.opm.govwill serve on a probationary period for two years.
