The OCCC Bookstore closed for about two hours Monday afternoon after Safety and Security used pepper spray to subdue a man suspected of stealing books in the store, said Cordell Jordan, Media Relations coordinator.

Jordan said Craig Ralls, 20, had been a suspect in other OCCC Bookstore thefts so Safety and Security officers had been watching out for him.

“[The suspect] walked into the bookstore and put a book under his T-shirt,” Jordan said.

When officers confronted Ralls, Jordan said, he became uncooperative and started fighting with the officers who then used the pepper spray on the man.

Safety and Security took the suspect into custody and called the Oklahoma City Police Department.

Jordan said the man is currently in OCPD custody.

Ralls last attended OCCC in Fall ’09 but is not currently enrolled said a spokesperson in the college records office.

OCPD Public Information Officer, Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow, said no further information is available at this time.

As more information becomes available, the Pioneer Online will update the story.
