Spring ushered in by child’s play
Connie Pidgeon’s preschool class
is more than ready for spring
at the Child Development Center
and Lab School.
Prior to spring break, the class prepared for the new season by investigating all things insect.
The students learned about common kinds of insects, like butterflies. Students also learned about where insects live and what insects eat.
On March 6, the students were scheduled to create insect collages, but their project took a detour.
“The students wanted to build bird houses instead,” Pidgeon said.
Many of the students built birdhouses that included features like doors, ladders and plenty of room for the birds to sitand eat.
The birdhouses are now on display in the entrance area to the CDCLS building.
The insect investigation will lead into a butterfly project the students will begin in late March.
During this project students will observe
butterflies as they progress through the various
stages of the metamorphosis process,
from egg, to larva, to pupa, to butterfly.
On March 21, the class was found bundled up in winter coats, running around the playground area.
Despite the cold temperatures and blowing wind, some of the boys were playing basketball, while the girls preferred swinging and hosting make-believe picnics.
