Calling all speakers

Speakers from the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education are now taking requests from clubs and organizations that would like to have a state regent speak at their next meeting.

“If a civic club would like to request a speaker from the State Regents’ Speakers Bureau for a particular day and time, they could either simply call or e-mail me,” said Harve Allen, Communications Coordinator for Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.

Allen said, in the future, the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education hopes to create a website where civic groups can request speakers.

Allen said the state regents are not the main “pool” of speakers used for the Speakers Bureau.

Although a state regent could occasionally serve as a speaker, the group most likely to serve as speakers are the State Regents’ senior staff, such as vice chancellors and assistant vice chancellors.

“It got its start when the Communications office began scheduling out-of-town visits for Chancellor [Paul] Risser when he first became chancellor,” Allen said.

He said the group decided to start a speakers bureau so Oklahomans could hear about the many programs and services the regents have to offer.

Allen said they created a brochure highlighting the services and sent them to a limited number of state civic groups.

To schedule a state regent to speak at a club meeting, contact Allen at (405) 225-9182 or by e-mail hallen@osrhe.edu.
