Students go to camp for more than vacation
Student Occupational Therapy Association members have started planning the annual Oklahoma Foundation for the Disabled Camp.
Ana Perez, OCCC occupational therapy student, said all the occupational therapy students are required to help plan the activities, but are not required to attend. However, being an all-volunteer event, a majority of students participate.
Occupational therapy is a heartfelt and compassionate area of the health field dealing with assisting mentally and physically disabled people, Perez said.
Students pour their minds and hearts into the camp, she said.
This year’s camp location has not yet been determined, but three locations are being discussed.
Perez said she attended the camp last fall and was impressed with it.
“It is something that everyone looks forward to,” Perez said.
In preparation, the students have started some inclass activities to get ideas for the camp.
Keisha Potts, occupational therapy student, said the camp offers many activities for people with special needs including games, arts and crafts, entertainment, basketball, and a talent show. The camp offers a chance for people with special needs to get away and enjoy a vacation.
