Week three results of the ‘Rumors’ play contest

In the final week of the “Rumors” play contest, the Pioneer presents five winning rumors.

The results for week three of the Rumors contest are in. This week, the Pioneer names four winners.

Patti Mershon, OCCC Online Learning assistant submitted this entry: “Starting at the beginning of the summer session, the college will be closed on Fridays. No classes will be held and all buildings will hold their weekend hours from Friday a.m. through Sunday p.m. Fulltime staff will still continue their 40-hour week, but with flex time when the extra time falls outside of their normal work week.

For example: Monday 12 hours,Tuesday 12 hours, Wednesday 8 hours, Thursday 8 hours.”

This week’s gossip monger is Craig Hitchcock, Labor Market Attachment specialist, who submitted two winning rumors. His first entry is: “I heard the finance department is going to give everyone extra money on their pay in April because they found a lot of extra money in a closed account they didn’t know they had.”

Hitchcock’s second rumor is: “OCCC has decided that there is too much money to be made in athletics, so they have decided to build a new gym with seating and develop the first ever basketball team to compete with area colleges, such as Rose State.”

Linda Fay, Employment Services coordinator, said she heard a great one about the new phones going into classrooms.

“For a small charge during enrollment, students can receive a printout of their classes with the telephone numbers of the new IPbased telephones installed in each class for distribution to family and friends.”

And finally, an explanation for the college’s acronym change submitted by Rick Allen Lippert, video production adjunct professor.

“I’ve heard that the recent name change (from OKCCC to OCCC) is a response to pressure from evangelical extremists to align the college with the Oklahoma Christian Children’s Coalition, and that a dress code of khaki pants and skirts, white shirts and socks, and brown/white saddle oxfords is coming next fall.”

Weekly winners will receive a pair of tickets to the play. One grand prize winner will be selected to participate in the performance in a walk-on part, as well as receiving four tickets to the play.

The grand prize winner will be contacted prior to the play and have their rumor, picture and name run in the April 10 issue of the Pioneer.
