Online ExclusiveThe Student Handbook is a good item to thoroughly absorb. Contained in the handbook is very useful information that will make your days on campus more comfortable, enjoyable and could easily save you money.

Presented on pages 23 and 27 are the policies that affect you, your vehicle and your pocketbook.  All vehicles used by students must have an OCCC parking permit affixed and displayed. This permit is to be placed on the rear window on the passenger side of the vehicle or the front fork of a motorcycle.

You will note as you read under the heading of “Parking and Vehicle Permits” that the permit is to be obtained from the Admissions Office. The permit is, actually, obtained from the Records and Graduation Department in the same location where you obtain the Student Photo identification Card that each student is required to have available and on their person while on campus as stated in the Student Handbook.

Both may be obtained in the area surrounded by the oak desk located on the first floor of the Main Building at the bottom of the stairs.

Section II, page 27 under the heading of “Campus Traffic and Parking Policies” discusses violations that affect students. It will be advantageous to not only familiarize yourself with these policies, but your friends and acquaintances, so that citations for violations can be avoided.

Some regulations may require special reminders or attention. Reserved parking areas should always be avoided, any time of day, regardless of the circumstance unless you have the necessary permit. Parking, standing, loading or unloading or any other misuse of a fire lane could cause a citation from not only OCCC Security but other enforcement agencies as well, like Oklahoma City Police and Fire Departments.

Handicap parking is for handicap persons only and then only with the proper handicap parking hanger. Parking in a handicap parking spot, even with the proper handicap hanger, that is not for the benefit of the handicap person, or the handicap person is not, or was not, in the vehicle at the time of parking is not permissible and a citation for unlawful parking is warranted, i.e. using another person’s handicap hanger constitutes misuse and is not permissible.

Security does the job of enforcing these regulations for the safety and assistance of all College patrons.

The Student Handbook is not only interesting but necessary reading for all students and a very important ingredient in making student success not only a reality, but easier for all students. The Handbook may be viewed by way of the College Homepage or a limited number are still available from the Office of Student Life as we anticipate the new printing for the fall semester.
