New IDs being implemented

The new student ID system is expected to help several areas of OCCC including the Test Center. Director of Testing and Assessment Services Jim Ellis said the improvements the new ID cards will bring to the test center are abundant.
“[As for now the new IDs] are being implemented in stages,” Ellis said. He said the present stage is getting the IDs in people’s hands.
“In order to take a test, students must have their IDs. This has been somewhat of a problem because people forget their IDs,” Ellis said.
He said he is hoping this problem will disappear once students remember it is now a necessity on campus.
Ellis said the new ID cards will improve the Test Center in several different ways. He said, with the new technology, the cards can be scanned and a photo of the student, their class schedule and the last time they were in a lab will appear on a computer screen.
Ellis said the time stamp is a very important component of the new system. He said teachers will be able to see the amount of time each student took to complete the test and prove they were actually in the Test Center on time.
He said he hopes the cards will be fully functional by spring.
“This system is heading to unify the labs around campus,” Ellis said.
