Wellness, Aquatic Centers open for students, faculty
By Jamie Laleff, Staff Writer
Membership to the Aquatic and Wellness Centers currently is free to all enrolled students with valid student ID.
Although the gym and pool are open to those in the general public who purchase memberships, it is free to OCCC students and staff.
Free membership grants access to the 50-meter pool, the diving pool, weight room, cardio room and gymnasium.
Recreation and Community Services Director Traci Wheeler said checking in will be even easier as soon as the new ID card system is fully installed. The new ID system will allow staff to have a better idea of just how much of an increase in use there has been.
The Wellness Center is open from 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
The pool hours are more erratic due to classes and cleaning schedules. A little purple card listing more specific hours of operation can be picked up in either the Wellness Center office or the Aquatic Center office.
For those looking for a part-time job as a lifeguard, the Aquatics Center is currently hiring, said Roxanna Butler, Aquatics and Safety Training coordinator.
Those interested must be certified as an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor and can apply online through the OCCC Job Board.
After filing out the application, potential employees will need to contact Butler directly by calling 405-682-1611, ext. 7425.
