OCCC student Stephanie Ibhe sustained minor head injuries in an accident on J. Lee Keels Blvd. around 3pm Tuesday afternoon.
“Ms. Ibhe was going westbound in her green Nissan and was trying to negotiate a left turn into parking lot A South,” said OCCC Safety and Security Sgt. Kevin Tipton.
“The driver of the black Camry was exiting the A South parking lot and failed to yield to the Nissan which was already in lane of travel," Tipton said. "The Nissan’s left front axle was broken and rendered the car unable to be driven.”
The EMSA unit arrived within moments and transported Ibhe to Southwest Integris Hospital. Paramedics said they wanted to be sure Ibhe did not receive a concussion when she hit her head.
Ibhe was conscious and seemed able to communicate with the paramedics, her mother Deborah, and her boyfriend Troy Knapp.
She said she was mainly worried her astronomy professor wouldn’t be informed that she was not in class because she was in an accident.
Sgt. Mauldin with the Oklahoma City Police Department said he would not be able to give a citation to the driver of the black Camry because OCCC is private property. He did say, however, that the crime report would indicate it was the driver of the Camry who was responsible for the accident.
The driver of the Camry left the scene of the accident quickly after being released by the paramedics and seemed to be unhurt.
