Building A Five Paragraph Essay

Blueprints

House

This presentation will take you through the basic building blocks of an essay. It covers introductions and conclusions, thesis statements, paragraph patterns, transitions, and more. Building an essay is very similar to constructing a house. Just as a house needs a strong foundation, an essay needs an interesting introduction. A house has an internal structure that rests on the foundation just as the body of an essay rests and supports the introduction and thesis statement. The final part of a house is the roof; often the roof gives the home character as well as providing cover for the rest of the structure. In an essay, the conclusion is the last thing the reader sees; it gives the reader a sense of completeness as it wraps up the subject.

Since building an essay is so similar to constructing a house, this presentation uses the construction and the decoration of houses as a metaphor for writing an essay.
